New Year, New York.

1 January 2023

Couple: Nick and Irene

Location: Summit, One Vanderbilt; Manhattan, New York & Coney Island Luna Park, Brooklyn

Nick and Irene had moved to New York to start a new life. They contacted me to do a couple’s shoot and celebrate this new Adventure they were heading into.

After some chats online, I decided to book two locations, the newly opened Summit One Vanderbilt, showcasing brand new views of the Manhattan Skyline, and the iconic Chrysler and Empire State buildings (in the past you could only have one or the other).

We really wanted to capture the vibes of the Manhattan skyline and the fun they have as a couple, so naturally the two locations were a great choice for this.

Firstly the views from Summit One are EXPANSIVE – the massive floor to ceiling windows over two floors, coupled with mirrored walls made for a unique perspective. It also made it damn hot! With all the bodies and the temperature, we wanted to get the most out of this shoot, but get it done quickly. If you’ve never been – it’s a MUST VISIT for New York City – check it out here: Summit OV

Next was Coney Island, Brooklyn. In discussing the sessions, I asked them what they loved to do together and spending time together exploring, meeting new people and places (both have had people and culture at the center of their careers) and having fun times painted a picture of colour and good times. I couldn’t think of any other location that would suit them better. After a quick feed at the iconic Nathaniel’s at Luna Park, we explored the rides and the beaches, and happened across some flashing red lights (no emergency thank goodness) that just highlighted the vibrance of the location, but more importantly, Nick and Irene as a couple.

Exploring the city together was such a great experience for me and I think, for Nick and Irene. Allowing the time for us to get to know each other during the shoots made for more natural, authentic photos. Nothing was forced, and both sessions were filled with lots of laughs and genuine memories.

Can’t wait to get back to this City, it was pure magic.
